NEWS – Early Childhood Matters 2019 to be Launched at ISSA Conference

The 2019 edition of Early Childhood Matters (ECM), the annual journal of the Bernard van Leer Foundation, will be launched at ISSA Conference 2019. As in previous issues, its range of articles will highlight examples of leadership, innovation and scaling in early childhood development around the world.

Published by Bernard van Leer Foundation, Early Childhood Matters is a journal about early childhood and aims to inspire, inform and create action to improve the health and well-being of young children, and their caregivers. In the 2015 issue, ISSA contributed the article Quality in Early Childhood Settings: universal values and cultural flexibility.

Multiple perspectives
The magazine is one of the key publications in the field and comprises a broad range of perspectives, research results and best practices. The 2018 edition, for example, featured contributions from the former President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos Calderón, on the ‘De Cero a Siempre’ policy; Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, on nurturing care; IRC President David W. Miliband on the humanitarian system and young children; and UN Special Representative Marta Santos Pais on violence prevention.

The articles in Early Childhood Matters range across continents and topics, from parenting programs to community health workers’ use of technology. Highlighting innovations, the path to scale and emerging initiatives in the field. ECM 2019 is again guest-edited by the internationally-acclaimed early childhood expert Joan Lombardi.

Launch at ISSA Conference
We are proud to announce that the 2019 ECM edition will be launched at the ISSA Conference. To mark the launch, a plenary session will be organized in which some of the article contents will be explored, highlighted and discussed by a panel of authors and experts. Joan Lombardi will moderate the panel. More details will follow in the conference agenda soon.
