Civil society organizations offer input on early education strategy in Romania

UNICEF Romania and Center for Education and Professional Development Step by Step hold the first reunion of the Working Group for Early Childhood Education and Care, which will lead to a national strategy on early education. A study entitled “The Stage of Implementation of the Strategy for Early Education and the Analysis of the Promising Practices in Early Education from Romania,” was presented the first reunion of the Working Group for Early Childhood Education and Care in Bucharest, on February 23rd 2017. The session was organized by UNICEF Romania and Center for Education and Professional Development Step by Step and it included talks about experiences and best practices. Participants discussed both challenges and priorities in Early Education and Care in Romania. The working group aims to offer feedback on strategy for early childhood education and care. Experts assess quality benchmarks, as well as measures and regulations regarding ECEC. Experts from the Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Health, Child Protection Authority, and the University of Bucharest were present, as well as representatives from schools and kindergartens. Non-Governmental Organizations including Save the Children, OvidiuRo and World Vision Romania also attended. Participants agreed upon a plan regarding a strategy for early education. The future working group meetings will analyze the legislative context of Romania’s early childhood policies. As part of the plan, members of the working group will contribute to the strategy individually and meet once a month to work together.
