TOY to Share, Play to Care is a two-year project (January 2019 – January 2021) that builds on previous work undertaken by International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI), a Netherlands-based non-governmental organization. Specifically, it follows upon the project TOY for Inclusion, 2017-2019.The TOY to Share, Play to Care consortium comprises ten partner organizations based in nine European countries.

This year, International Families Day looks very different. We use today to thank them for being a source of support for one another, and the children in their lives.    Families are dealing with new norms during the current crisis – physically distancing from loved ones, caring for out-of-school children, and, at the same time, continuing their work duties. We do not have a clear picture yet about how the crisis and mitigation measures affect families and their children; not only in the short-term but especially in the long-term.

Nedim Krajišnik is Program Coordinator at ISSA’s member in Bosnia and Herzegovona, Center for Educational Initiatives Step by Step (SbS). He is also a senior researcher specialized in Peace Education. For the past year, his organization has been offering an innovative training to more than 7,000 early childhood development (ECD) practitioners all over the country.

This toolkit represents the compilation of different programs and specific activities developed by ISSA and its members over the past 15 years. The backbone of the toolkit is ISSA’s core document Competent Educators of the 21st century: Princi­ples of Quality Pedagogy which focuses on process, quality and educators as agents of change and their power and ability (with more or less support) to enrich the lives of children, families and communities and thus of society in general.

Embracing Diversity Training program for adults promotes the values of anti-discrimination, anti-bias, equity and respect for diversity in different settings: in communities, at the workplace, and in society. Embracing Diversity guides participants through a process of personal transformation, which helps them to become agents of change towards inclusive and social cohesive societies.

The manual “Inclusive Education” describes the conceptual principles of inclusive education, international and national legislation in a field of inclusive education, experience of inclusive education implementing in other countries, public-state governance of inclusive education. The special emphasis is put on the education of children with special needs in the system of general education. The manual is also aimed to provide practical information for teachers working in the inclusive educational environment.

The Wide Open School is working with seriously disadvantaged people: the Roma community. They live in very poor settlements. At the same time, through their expert work for universities (in cooperation with professional consultancies) they are connected with wealthier people as well, amongst which are many from the private IT sector.

The Know How Centre has worked with Roma communities for the past 6 years. This year's program however was their most successful until now: they managed to motivate and support Roma parents of 29 children to apply for kindergarten. A huge milestone and a great motivation to endure their support and empowerment of parents in their pursuit of better futures for their little ones. As a result, the Know How Centre widened their program scope and offered new services.
