Mission

For Our Children Foundation (FOC)’s mission is to ensure that every vulnerable child in Bulgaria experiences a safe and happy childhood and is able to look forward to a bright future. The organisation focuses on children in the early age (0-7 years old) and has been active on securing every child’s right to live in a family or family-type environment. We provide professional social services for the most vulnerable young children by promoting permanent, secure and developing family relationships. Led by its mission that every child should grow up in a family environment and the understanding that the early age is a crucial period that determines the future development and realisation of the individual, FOC specialises in the provision of social services which aim to prevent family separation, support and empower families at risk, and provide alternative care for newborns and young children. In addition, our early childhood intervention programme enhances the development of children with disabilities and special needs. Aiming to ensure a systemic approach to child welfare improvement, FOC works simultaneously at all levels - family, community, national - while partnering with the social and health systems and often filling the coordination gaps between them for the best interest of the child. Apart from social services provision, FOC is active in supporting the social inclusion and deinstitutionalisation processes through a range of advocacy work, including participation in various working groups, coalitions and networks, assisting policy, legislation and methodology development.
