Vacancy: ISSA Seeks a Finance Officer

The International Step by Step Association (ISSA) is a vibrant international network that connects professionals and non-profit organizations working in the field of early childhood development. Established in the Netherlands in 1999, ISSA’s community today stretches across the globe with about 100 member organizations coming from close to 40 countries, primarily located in Europe and Central Asia. In addition to providing network services to its Members (capacity building, learning exchanges, partnership projects, networking activities, etc.), ISSA also runs programs and offers services and resources to other stakeholders, increasingly acting as a broader platform for the early childhood development field.

THE POSITION

ISSA seeks to hire an Finance Officer, joining a team of 9 staff members. This is a part-time position of 3 days/week, initially for 6 months with the possibility of extension, reporting to the Finance Director. The role will combine home working with at least one or two days per week of office-based working from our office in the Child Rights Home in Leiden, depending on individual and organisational needs.

Your essential duties will be to support the all-round financial operations of ISSA’s and take the responsibility for smooth day to day bookkeeping and financial grant management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Day-to-day bookkeeping and periodic balance sheet reconciliations
  • Financial management of assigned grants, sub-award and contractual procurement, starting from grant proposal budget development up to close-out procedures
  • Contribute to organizational budgeting and planning process
  • Prepare internal expense reports, as well as financial reports and other financial documentation in compliance with donors’ requirements
  • Prepare documents related to organizational and project audits
  • Ongoing expense and income monitoring
  • Maintain and improve financial policies, processes and procedures
  • VAT reporting process and monitoring applicable legal regulations for changes and updates
  • Assist with HR administration and contract management
     

PROFILE

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Audit, or similar field of study
  • 3+ years of work experience in finance and accounting
  • Knowledge of Dutch accounting standards
  • Experience in non-profit finance management, budgeting and reporting is desired but not a must

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work outputs, including written communication;
  • Hands-on, proactive, results-driven approach with a strong ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Office 365, particularly Excel and experience with accounting software (i.e. Twinfield)
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse team
  • Fluency in written and oral English

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

A gross salary between EUR 3.476 – EUR 3.763 EUR per month based on full-time employment of 40 hours per week, pro-rated, commensurate with experience.

The terms of the contract will be determined on the basis of the applicable Dutch Labor Code.
