CONCORDIA Bulgaria works to prevent child neglect, family separation, and institutionalization by supporting families facing poverty, social exclusion, and other complex challenges. Through integrated, family-centered services, the organization focuses on early childhood development, recognizing that the earliest years of life are critical for a child's future well-being and success.
Working directly in communities and homes, CONCORDIA Bulgaria supports pregnant women, parents, caregivers, and young children through a combination of practical assistance, parenting guidance, emotional support, and early learning opportunities. Their approach is rooted in building trusting relationships with families and responding to children's needs as early as possible. By providing holistic support, they help create safe and nurturing environments where children can thrive and families can build resilience and confidence.
One example of CONCORDIA Bulgaria's work can be seen at the Early Childhood Development Center Children's Dreams in the village o fMalki Iskar. The center was established to serve children and families living in a remote area where access to social and educational services is limited and many families experience economic hardship.
Among the children attending the center is Vasilka, who joined the program in December 2025. Initially shy and uncertain, she gradually became more confident through regular participation and support from the center's specialists. Through the Element of Play program, she takes part in both individual and group activities designed to support her development.
Over time, Vasilka has shown growing curiosity, stronger communication skills, and increased independence. She has become more comfortable expressing herself, following rules, and collaborating with other children. Today, she arrives at the center with a smile and a sense of belonging, demonstrating how early support can help unlock a child's potential and prepare them for a successful start in kindergarten.
CONCORDIA Bulgaria brings extensive experience in delivering early childhood development services in high-risk environments where poverty, social exclusion, and limited access to resources often overlap. Their expertise includes community-based and mobile services, interdisciplinary collaboration, family-centered case management, and effective engagement with hard-to-reach families.
The organization is particularly interested in exchanging knowledge and collaborating with other ISSA members on early prevention, parenting support, workforce development, and family-based alternatives to institutional care. They view ISSA as a valuable platform for shared learning,innovation, and collective action to strengthen systems that support young children and caregivers.
